Extra! Extra!: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2012 Announced

Each year the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducts a group of worthy musical acts, and this year’s class has some big names.  The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Guns N’ Roses, The Beastie Boys, Donovan, The Small Faces (otherwise known as The Faces, which included Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood), and Laura Nyro will all be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  The award ceremony will be held on April 14 and will be televised on HBO sometime in May.

This is an impressive group of musicians, but what I’m looking forward to the most is the possibility of a Guns N’ Roses reunion.  The band members have been talking over the years about getting back together – the original lineup hasn’t played together since 1990 – and this ceremony might be all the band needs to bury the hatchet and get back together.  Let’s see if Axel Rose and Slash can actually kiss and make up though.

In order to be eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the music act must have released its first record at least twenty-five years ago.

Top Lists: Great Albums Turning 20 This Year

One year shy of legal drinking!

1991 must have been an incredible year for music (I wouldn’t know, I wasn’t born yet!).  Many remember 1991 simply as the year Nirvana released Nevermind, which ended hair metal and began a grunge movement that bands today are still taking inspiration from.  As important as that album would become, there were many other albums released in 1991 that were just as good, if not better, than Nevermind.  For the 20th anniversary of the great year that was 1991 (it was also the year Silence of the Lambs came out!) let’s take a walk down memory lane and see what music was released.

Soundgarden – Badmoterfinger

Pearl Jam – Ten

Stevie Ray Vaughan – The Sky Is Crying

Guns N’ Roses – Use Your Illusions I and II

U2 – Achtung Baby

B.B. King – Live at the Apollo

Nirvana – Nevermind

My Bloody Valentine – Loveless

Teenage Fanclub – Bandwagonesque

Metallica – Metallica (The Black Album)

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Blood Sugar Sex Magik

Blur – Leisure
