Yesterday Levon Helm died after a long battle against throat cancer. He was 71 years old.
Helm was the drummer of The Band, which had huge hits such as “The Weight” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down”, and early in their career they were Bob Dylan’s backing band. After The Band broke up he continued playing music with a successful solo career. He was one of the few talented people who could drum and sing well. He had a unique voice and was a terrific songwriter.
Here’s an appropriate song from The Band’s final performance that happens to include Bob Dylan, Ringo, Ronnie Wood, and Eric Clapton. He will be missed.
