Bluegrass legend Earl Scruggs pasted away Wednesday at his Nashville home due to natural causes. He was 88.
Scruggs helped defined the sound of the banjo in popular country music. Whenever you think of someone playing the banjo, you’re thinking of how Earl Scruggs played. His biggest hit was “Foggy Mountain Breakdown”, a standard in bluegrass music and a song you’ve heard your whole life. Here’s a reminder.
Scruggs is also the banjo player on the Beverly Hillbillies theme song.
Here’s a late video of the great Scruggs rocking on “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” (with Steve Martin!) showing that he always had that magic touch with the banjo. You will be missed Earl.
