Sherry Turkle: Connected, But Alone?

Today’s post has nothing to do with music, but I believe this is one of the best videos I’ve seen in a long time, and I would like to share it with all of you.

Sherry Turkle discusses how our increasing dependence on technology to connect with other people is actually making us more lonely.  According to Turkle, the more we are able to connect TO other people, the less we are able to connect WITH other people, which is endangering our ability to create and maintain real relationships with other people.

This video brings up some very important issues that either we don’t want to admit are there or that we don’t even recognize.  Especially for young people around my age and less, this is a problem that needs to be tackled.  The video is 20 minutes and it’s worth every minute of it.

As always, thank you TED for the video.
