Friday Mixtape (July 24, 2015)

drake

Throughout the week I keep track of all the new songs I hear and love and every friday I put them all here. Most of these songs are brand new, but sometimes I’ll miss a song from before and finally hear it this week.

Peaches – “Bodyline (feat. Nick Zinner)

It’s great to have Merrill Nisker back, especially with Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner and Adult Swim.

Foals – “Mountain At My Gates”

Foals is already big in the UK, but they’re about to have their Coldplay/U2/world-domination moment with this new album in August.

High Dive – “Anything to Anyone”

I’m always happy to share great music from my old college town of Bloomington, IN (Go Hoosiers!). Full length album New Teeth is available to download on Bandcamp for any price.

princess reason – “Your Divorce”

Baltimore continues being one of the more underrated music cities as it produces yet another great band. The full album comes out August 14th.

Golden Retriever – “2”

This song was released on Seattle’s Debacle Records, which is a self-described experimental label, yet all 22-minutes of this song is surprisingly accessible.

The Smoking Trees – “Trips”

Listening to this song is a trip(s), man.

Major Lazer – “Lost (feat. Mø)”

An unlikely duo successfully turns one of my favorite Frank Ocean songs into a reggae jam.

DJ Quik – “Puffin The Dragon”

In which DJ Quik channels his inner Gonzo.

Kurt Vile – “Pretty Pimpin”

It retains the best qualities of his last album, 2013’s excellent Wakin On A Pretty Daze, but it also sounds leaner and more focused. Can’t wait for September 25th.

Manor – “Can You Hear Me Talking At You”

This Australian group might have just out Lana Del Rey’d Lana Del Rey.

Spraynard – “Applebee’s Bar”

Applebee’s has never sounded more angsty.

Night Beds – “Corner”

The latest addition to the great Dead Oceans label (another Bloomington, IN favorite).

The Rightovers – “Valerie”

Music as sky blue as, uh, its blood?

And that’s a wrap, see y’all on Monday!
